HER

HER is an extension of the artists’ personal tribulations, a window into the failed romantic relationships as a young adult. More so, HER reveals a personal reflection of heartbreak felt over years, while represented and depicted by the women of his past. The series questions the traditional views of “plenty more fish in the sea”, and that young love is simple and trivial.

Dodge explores the idea that some endings have lasting effects and that any heartache may seem unoriginal to the outsider looking in. It’s only when we experience loss, that it feels unique. As the acrylic portraits are originals, so lived the relationships, no two will ever be the same or cut to shape again.

HER is an open challenge to consider the part of oneself that only exists due to these past connections and the memories that originated with them. Each piece is an ode, a reminder to the unintended transformation we each go through with every new love, and every new loss.
